Ribbon Mobile

I saw the cutest ribbon mobile on a couple of websites and I thought I would give it a go. It looked cute and easy and was something I could do even without the rest of my crafting supplies! lol I can NOT wait until the movers bring our stuff in July, I am sorely missing my sewing machine right now.

Anyway, I first saw this ribbon mobile at Crystal's Craft Spot. I saw this one at Martha Stewart's site. This one was at Ehow, and anyway, you get the idea. I do think it turned out adorable, but I would like it a little fuller. My second eldest wants one now as well, so I will try to do it fuller next time.

But, for now, here is what I did and how it turned out:

I used 8 spools of dollar ribbon from Michaels, an embroidery hoops, a glue gun and glue sticks, scissors, and some thinner ribbon for hanging.

I had my daughter show me about how long she wanted it and then I cut the ribbon into strips all at varying lengths, just close to what she wanted. I wanted a little haphazardness in the strips, not all one uniform length.

Then I glued the strips to the inside of the hoop, with the wrong side down. I then brought the ribbon over the top of the hoop, as I did not like the look of the exposed hoop and glued it on the front of the hoop as well.

I staggered them around the hoop and then went back and filled in the spaces in between, some were wide and some thin so in the end the strips did overlap some.

Then I took the thinner ribbon and cut two lengths of it, I just had my daughter show me how low she wanted it to hang, double that and cut two pieces of ribbon that long. I glue it to the inside of the hoop and the other end at the opposite side if the hoop, and did that as well with the second ribbon.

And viola! We have a cute lil ribbon mobile. I am definitely going to try again for the next kid and make it fuller, and maybe a lil shorter. I think my favorite I saw was the style of how Martha Stewart did it. We shall see. Wish me luck on the next one! lol

  1. How fun and cute, your daughter must love it. It's a good way to use old embroidery hoops, too. Please consider joining my Fabric Fun Thursday party.
