Upcycled Jeans to Plastic Bag Holder

When we were getting ready to move, one of the things that I did was go through everyone's clothing and donate a lot of stuff, but I also kept quite a bit for the intended purpose of scrap fabric, or some other crafty adventure! I have quite a few jeans that my husband is now to small for :) Go him, and go me 'cause now I get to play!

Anyway, I saw this tut for a plastic bag holder, which we have all seen, but it sparked the idea in me to make one with a jean leg. All I would need to do is a tiny bit of sewing and add a tiny bit of elastic and it would be done! Just the perfect kind of craft in my opinion!

Plastic Bag Holder

You need one pair of old jeans.

Cut one leg off and get rid of the ankle hemming.

Fold over one edge and sew... My sewing machine was still packed at this point so I hand sewed...I suck at it, but whatever, its just a bag that hangs in the pantry lol.

You need a piece of elastic about 6 inches long.

Thread the elastic through, then sew together.

Remember the pinched fabric flowers I made? I made a few more with left over scrap fabric from the rag quilt I did for Samantha.

I attached them with fabric glue ... it stays MUCH better than hot glue, but it takes a while to dry. I left it to sit overnight.

I used a piece of ribbon and attached to either side of the leg, to hang the holder from. I used hot glue here...not sure why I did not stick with the fabric glue! But it has worked thus far.

And viola!

  17. Very clever Tanyia, I need to use more of the things I have on hand, rather than spend more money on fabric I don't need!!!
