Are you wearing red today?

February is American Heart Month.

Heart diseases are the number one killer of Americans. Since 1963 Feb. has been American Heart Month to try and raise awareness and support for the American Heart Association.

My mother has had a 5 way by-pass and has Congestive Heart Failure. I have seen what this has done to her life and what she has become as a result of it. It saddens me. What saddens me more is the thought of my children possibly having to care for me someday due to the same thing.

My family and I have been taking a healthier approach in general to life. We are definitely changing our eating habits. I have actually lost about 40 pounds now and I have not even tried lol. I finally decided to not worry about weight specifically but health in general. One thing I am going to promise myself is to start working on getting more active and including the girls in it with me : ) I really need to teach them to take care of themselves as that was never really something I was taught.

So, if you are interested in helping to raise a bit of awareness or maybe even take a step towards a healthier you, this is one little thing you could do to start... put on something red and wear it with pride today!

Throughout Feb I would love to re-visit this topic with some great sites and/or info for anyone interested.
