It's Wednesday! WIP!

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

Well, I guess I have a little of this and a little of that going on right now. I am having trouble concentrating and keeping on task though as my kitten is really ill and the prognosis is not good right now... I am thinking that today I need a little sewing though, my mind needs a break! A little quilt therapy sounds just right!

Last week I shared the fabrics I got ready for cutting for a personal bee with friends. Here are the blocks that came of that.

And the block I shared last week... the table runner top is done now for that. (This pic is awful, the sun was not cooperating the day I took this pic lol) it looks small here, but it is about 20 x 60 which will fit perfectly in the middle of the table its being made for.

and last but not least I started the practice bonus block for the Lucky Stars BOM club with Don't Call Me Betsy... I have NEVER ever done paper piecing and have been wanting to learn, so here is my first attempt:

Im trying to cut myself some slack, since it is my first attempt. I do love the over all look of the block and I really love how easy the actually sewing was, I was thrilled that this is something I can do! However, now look at the middle circle... the seams do NOT meet at all. I will keep at it, I am going to attempt the Jan block today, so wish me luck!

What have you been up to? If I have not already visited your WIP post link me up I would love to see it!

  1. This is beautiful Tanyia! I started my first quilt (well technically 2nd--made a baby quilt about 18 years ago), almost a year ago & still haven't finished it. It was supposed to be for my oldest daughter's graduation, but since I missed that I'm going to try to get it finished before her 19th birthday in April. Thanks for stopping by my blog. (I'm following you now!)

  5. Your practice block looks great, I'm also taking part in the BOM, and so far I love it! I'm new to foundation piecing myself, I love the 'clean' look of the blocks.

  9. I really love your wonky pinwheel table runner! What a great use for those fun blocks. :)
Also, for paper-piecing, having the middle not line up right isn't that uncommon, especially when you first start! Paper-piecing will often get you bias cut edges on your pieces so they can go all wonky. Do you keep the paper on until after you've sewn the units together? That can sometimes give it some stability, but can make it a bit harder to take the paper off afterwards. I usually find that it's worth it, though. :)

Another thing I've started doing with paper piecing is I baste my units together. I do the biggest stitch my machine will do, and just do a quick baste run so I can make sure things line up. It's SO hard to pick threads on paper-piecing with the paper there, that the basting has really been worth it for me. :) Keep at it, and you'll find things that work for you.

With all that said, your star block looks wonderful, and I wouldn't worry about the center!!
