I make a bunch, using 8 cups of oats. It will last about two weeks here... if that. But we have 7 people in our house and most of us eat yogurt with granola every morning for breakfast.
It is a great replacement for sugary cereals, my girls love it. Also it is really tasty...not a traditional "yucky" health food. Also it is SO easy and quick to make and you can really customize it anyway you want.
Here is ours:
Cherry Pecan Granola
8 c of oats **not instant
1 c brown sugar
3/4 c wheat germ
1/2 c oil *I used canola*
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp vanilla
1 tbsp butter
1/2c pure maple syrup
6 to 8 ounce bag of dried cherries
8oz bag (2c) of chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix the oats, brown sugar, and wheat germ in a large bowl. Set aside.
In a small pan combine the oil, honey, maple syrup, vanilla, and butter. Heat up until warm and bubbly.
Pour warm mixture over oats and mix, working to incorporate well... it may take a couple of minutes. The oats will be all coated but not soaked and clumped.
Pour onto two cookie sheets and smooth out as flat as possible. Bake for 15 minutes, remove from oven, stir and flatten again. Bake 15 more minutes. Let cool completely before storing in an air tight container.
MMMMM sounds good. If this recipe lasts you guys 2 weeks it would probably take me forever to get through it all. Do you know how long it will last? The last time I tried to make something that contained wheat germ, do you know I searched the store forever and could not find it anywhere
ReplyDeleteIt can last approx one month in an air tight container. No wheat germ? blah, well you can substitute it with oat bran if you can find that .... or leave it out all together, it is just for the added health benefit but it won't ruin the recipe if you can not find it. I could always be a good sister and send you some, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing to me...I could munch this up soooo fast!
