This past weekend I took the girls to Government Island. HERE is a link if you would like to learn more about it and its historical significance.
Government Island used to be a sandstone quarry, the stone was used for constructing a lot of historical landmarks such as parts of the white house, local churches, etc. Today it is a nature preserve. There is a walk way to a small bridge which you cross over and then you are on the island...which is actually a peninsula lol. Go figure. But it is absolutely beautiful as far as the nature of the area. It is serene and quiet, on the water, lots of wildlife and dog walking! Ginger loves to go there.
I have been trying to go there more frequently as the walk from the car, around the little island and back is a mile and a half walk. Remember I said I was trying to get more active? Well, I have! I am so proud and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
Here are a couple pics of the girls while we were there.
