My 500th post! String Table Topper

Well, it has only been about four months since I last blogged, but honestly I was just not feeling it. I was not very crafty, I didn't bake anything, did not really sew... I guess I was in a rut, a funk, a ... well you get the idea. But I am back and hopefully to stay! Maybe not every day like I was trying to do, that was really just too much for me.

And seriously??? 500 posts! WOW!

I am going to try and share my sewing and play in my favorite fabric and quilt hops, because I found that not only do I enjoy having someone to share my creations with but I really miss the beautiful inspiration I find from all the blogs I follow! Hopefully, you will have me back? Because I missed you!

I wanted to share something I just recently finished, maybe a couple weeks ago now. It is a small table topper for my mom. I absolutely love doing string piecing! It is so fast and easy, you can make some truly pretty patterns depending on how you arrange things and you can use little bits and pieces of your favorite fabrics! This used up some of a FQ bundle I had and left me plenty to make a wall hanging which I will share with you soon.

In case you are wondering I do my string piecing with muslin. I love not having to rip off the paper, if I had chosen the paper piecing way. There are so many methods on how to do things you really just need to find what works best for you!

Here is a great tutorial for you, if you are wanting to learn string piecing, TRUST ME... its easy peasy, and the instant gratification of seeing it come together so quickly is wonderful! If you use the same fabric for that first center piece, like I did with the white, you can give a directional pattern to you layout.

Here is mine:

and in case you are in need of some additional inspiration for string style quilting, take a look at some of the beauties I found on the Flickr! Number 1 is a quilt I made for a friend, using this method, that was my first try at it and I fell in love!

  6. Your table topper looks amazing! I wish I was creative with fabric and could sew, maybe I could if I put my mind to it, but I'm a bit worried I'd be rubbish at it!
