Finding Inspiration: Tile part 5

I hope everyone in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I also hope you all survive Black Friday! I try to avoid shopping at all costs on Black Friday... no thank you! So, I am back now with the last tile design to see how they work with the colors. So, here goes:

The original tile inspiration:

and, how it works with the colors:

Alright, so for this first one being one of my favorite color palettes so far with the other designs... I kinda hate it here. I am not sure why but it is just not working for me. It made me rethink this design/shape altogether.

Now, when I mocked up this color palette... the design started to grow on me. I do like how it is looking in here...again I think the pop of color really adds something.

I am just not digging this at all. It looks... tired, bleak...yea, just not for me.

I think that this one is almost there... but maybe just not quite.

Now... this one I am really loving! This color scheme with this particular design is really standing out to me!

And again.... just no.

So, that's all the colors with all the inspiration tiles. Now... I think I will narrow it down to one color palette per design and play with them and see the different ways to work it with those colors. Who knew you could play around so much with a shape and a few colors and come up with so many results! Well... I guess all the people that a big name quilters and already know what they are doing...but for someone that is finding their way, this is pretty cool! This process is awesome!

What do you think of these colors for this design?

Finding Inspiration: Tile part 4

Ok, today I have the second tile pattern to share with the same color palettes shown yesterday in tile number 1. I have to say, this is a prime example of how the same exact color can look so very very different just by using a different pattern.

Here is the second tile pattern, again:

Again the colors are not beautifully arranged just... thrown in there to see how they work in that pattern before figuring out how they should specifically be arranged. So, here they are, all 6:

Yep, again I am liking the green here.

But again...this one is standing out a little more than the first. That extra little pop of brightness really does something here.

I am liking the way the blue and gray are mixing in this pattern, better than these colors in the first tile pattern, they just didn't work there.

I do think that the pop of navy in here is looking pretty cool as well.

Again... this one is just meh. I really loved the colors on the design seeds pallet... but put in to play I do not actually like them yet.

This one is just ok for me. Not a big fan.

What do you think? I think I may be liking pattern number so far a bit better compared to this one...but I will reserve judgement and just try to just narrow this down to a color palette! lol

I will be back and continuing this series of posts Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Finding Inspiration: Tile part 3

Here is tile number 1 of 3.

I used Photoshop to create the shape and then used my color palettes from yesterday to see what the colors would look like. I did not arrange any patterns ...just threw the colors in there to get a general feel for them. Here is what I have:

This is one of my favorites! I love the greens in here with the gray and almost black!

Also, this one I love. It is very similar to the first one but it also has an almost aqua in it for a little bit of brightness which I think is fun!

This one certainly looks wintery to me...maybe a little too wintery? It is kind of bleak looking in my opinion.

Now this does have some fun brightness to it...but perhaps a little too bright? I do not know, it is just not sitting with me as well as the first two! I think I am digging the greens more.

This is...eh, its ok, but again I think the greens have me!

Ummm....no.

What do you think? Wanna vote and give me your opinion, I would love to hear it. Right now I am leaning towards number 1 or 2. Tomorrow I will show you the second pattern in these same colors... who knows maybe one of the other palettes will work with a different pattern better.

Finding Inspiration: Tile part 2

Ok, so I got rid of one of the tile ideas from yesterday's post. Now I am looking at some color palettes. I was drawn to gray and using it in wintery sort of palettes. So, here are some I narrowed it down to.

Any thoughts?

I think I will play with the colors in the design and see how they look and go from there. Maybe it will also help me narrow down the pattern to one instead of three! lol

I am not going to worry about fabrics or patterns and solids right now... just see how the colors look in those patterns. It is so funny because the exact colors in the exact pattern can look so very different depending on just where you use and place them. Maybe I will go with colors and one pattern at a time! That might be a little less overwhelming lol.

Then I can narrow it down to one color per pattern and pick a favorite from there!

When you are making a quilt, whether it is your own pattern or not do you look for color inspiration or a color story, or do you start with fabrics and go make them work in a pattern?

What do you think of these colors, do you have a favorite...any votes?

Finding Inspiration: Tile part 1

Sew... since I feel like I am finally really starting to come in to my own as a quilter I am beginning to look at quilting in a new way. I am moving from doing tutorials and patterns that others have made and looking at finding my own inspiration and stepping out and making my own quilt design.

I have not made anything yet, but who better to talk about the creative process with than quilty friends! I mean, seriously...who else would truly understand anyway! lol

So I thought for this first Finding Inspiration post I would look at tile. Tile and their patterns and the patterns the tiles are in have long been a source of inspiration for all kinds of designers, quilters included!

Here are some tiles I came across that I think would be just amazing for quilty inspiration! All images linked to where I found them for credit.

This one was posted as an elongated hexagon....what a cool design!

I am definitely not ready for curves but this is super soft and lovely!

Now here is a design I know I could manage! I love the bold look of contrasting solids here!

I am pretty sure I could figure this one out as well and I really love not only the look...but the potential of the tone on tone of this really appeals to me!

Now, I know that there are other tiles out there that are far more detailed and intricate, but I feel like this is a good place to start! And I really feel like that last one is totally calling my name! I think next I will look at color inspiration for it!

Have you designed your own quilt? Where do you find inspiration? Have color suggestions? I think I will peruse some colors palettes and come back and share tomorrow, come back and give me your opinion!
